The Rushwick Emotion Toolkit

Introduction of The Rushwick Emotion Toolkit

As part of our commitment to develop a preventative whole-school mental health and wellbeing approach, in September we introduced the children to the first part of our Rushwick Emotion Toolkit. These are a range of evidence-based strategies that children have been taught which can be used when they are feeling ‘big emotions’.

Attached is document showing all of the strategies, as they are displayed in school, together with another document with instructions of how each is used. Please note, children have only been introduced to Star Breathing, 54321 and Name It. After half term, the final four strategies will be introduced. You may find it useful to talk to your child about these and support and encourage them in using these at home.

As with everything, this is not a ‘one-size-fits-all' and may not be suitable for some children who are accessing other support to manage their emotional literacy.

 What Next?

In our next phase of development, we will be reviewing our website. This area will shortly be going under a complete overhaul, to ensure our families are provided with links to websites and charities that not only support children with their mental health and wellbeing, but also that of adults.

The Government have released their Curriculum Review, so we are currently reviewing our PSHE offer to ensure it meets the needs of all our children, by gathering the thoughts of both children and adults.

Finally, we are submitting a bid for a grant to enable us to fund a small number of Wellbeing Sessions with Onside Advocacy - Act On It Extra, a charity we have previously worked with who are now a fee-based service due to Government funding cutbacks.

Many thanks as always for your continued support.
